4 Methods To Measure Success In Your Community For Free

Here are a few tips about how to measure the performance and engagement of your community… for FREE!

#1 – SCORE

This is a technique that we used at Cablevision & Fibertel to understand whether your strategy is working in terms of relevance and engagement in your community. It is very straightforward and precise. You will assign a different score to every activity in your community (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Forum, etc.) during a certain period of time:

  • Like = 1 point

  • Poll = 2 points

  • Comment/Reply = 3 points

  • Share/RT = 5 points

Then you will need to add up all the numbers to get the result.

It is highly important to find the posts that were most successful over a period of time and analyse:

  • What was the topic about?

  • At what time of the day was the message posted?

  • How many posts you had that day?

  • Did you share an image, infographic, video or any other type of content?

  • Why do you think it was successful?

All of these questions will help you to improve your strategy by making a change in the way you normally post, … and adapting the content based on your community’s interests, etc.

You should also do this exercise with your competitors and most popular brands in your country. Sometimes there are “universal topics” for example pets. Everybody would love to see a little dog dancing with its owner!

You can get a lot of information about your audience such as:

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Interests

  • Where they are from

  • What is the typical behaviour of a demographic group

  • Page Views

  • Sessions / Minutes online

  • Percentage of new users versus returning visitors. In fact, this is a very good measurement to enable us to understand how good the content that you are creating is

  • Which devices they use, etc.

These tools are amazing to take invaluable information about your audience, to influence them and to build up your strategy. It is the best way to know what is being said about your brand, products, services, etc. online. In addition, they might hep you to understand customer’ sentiments. You can either sign up for free or pay depending on your needs. I will talk about social listening tools soon. So stay tuned!
